Velogic Studio Pro: The Installation Session

Velogic Studio Pro: The Installation Session

Velogic Studio Pro requires a guided installation session, where our technician will take control of your computer to complete the installation.

Preparation: before the installation session

You should have already ordered and received the necessary hardware, specified in "Stage 1: The Gathering" from the purchasing FAQ
Before the installation session you need to gather the necessary hardware and get it plugged together, so that our technician can complete the software installation during the installation session.
Here's what you need to do:

Prepare the PoE network switch

  1. Unbox the PoE network switch, and plug it in to power.
  2. Run a network cable from the PoE network switch to the spare network port on the computer.
If the PoE network switch has both powered and unpowered ports, you can plug the computer into an unpowered port.

Prepare the sync hub

  1. Unbox the Orbbec Sync Hub pro
  2. Plug it into power via USB-C
(note that the USB-C power source isn't supplied with the sync hub; if you have a spare USB-C phone charger, you can use that, otherwise here's an example from Amazon)
  3. Set the power switch on the front to 1.8V

Prepare the first Orbbec Femto Mega camera (Primary)

  1. Unbox the first Femto Mega camera, and place it in the desired location in your fit area. You might use a camera tripod or wall mount; see Setting up the fit area (velogicfit.com)
  2. Plug a network cable into the Femto Mega camera, and run it to the PoE network switch.
If the PoE network switch has both powered and unpowered ports, ensure you're plugging the camera into a powered port.
  3. Attach the sync adaptor to the back of the Femto Mega camera, by plugging in the 8-pin adaptor to the socket.
  4. Run a second network cable from the sync adaptor to the "Primary" port on the front of the sync hub (the same side that has USB-C power)

Prepare the second Orbbec Femto Mega camera (Secondary)

  1. Repeat the setup from the Primary camera (above), EXCEPT when running the network cable from the sync adaptor to the sync hub, you should plug it into one of the "Secondary" ports on the back of the sync hub.

Schematic

If you're a visual thinker, here's a network diagram that shows conceptually how everything plugs together.

Tips & tricks

  1. Although the sync system utilises network cables, the sync cables don't plug into the network switch! The sync cables plug into the sync hub.
  2. There is no cable going from the sync hub to the computer. This is fine! The way sync works is as follows:
    1. Velogic Studio will configure the cameras so that they know whether they're the primary or a secondary
    2. For each frame, the primary camera will send a sync pulse to the sync hub,
    3. The sync hub will amplify & send that same sync pulse to the secondary cameras,
    4. Each secondary camera will time their frame captures from that.
  3. If you have a labeller, it will really help to label the end of each cable, so you remember where it plugs in if it ever gets unplugged.

Show off your setup!

  1. Pull out your phone and take a quick video of the connections from the back of each camera, and the connections to the network hub and the sync hub. Email it to support@velogicfit.com; we'll review it and if we see any issues we'll be in touch to help you resolve them prior to the installation session.
  2. Please also run the "System Information" app on your computer, and either email us a screenshot of the first page, or click File -> Export and email us the exported text file. This will help us to verify that the computer meets the minimum specs, so you have a good experience with Velogic Studio.
  3. Please ensure that your computer has English language pack installed, as our technician will require that in order to complete the install.

Book the installation session

Once the hardware is assembled and plugged together, you can book a time with our technician.
Simply visit the booking link and choose a time slot that's convenient for you. You'll be asked for a WhatsApp phone number for us to call you on when the session starts.

Attend the installation session

  1. 24 hours before the scheduled installation, you'll be sent an email with a link to download a remote support application.
In case that didn't arrive, you can download the remote support application from here; make sure you run it after it downloads.
  2. At the scheduled time, our technician will call you on the WhatsApp number you provided when you booked the session.

If anything is unclear, please don't hesitate to get in touch via support@velogicfit.com
